The Brattleby Royal & Noble Glossary

The vocabulary of nobility is, in essence, the vocabulary of European law before the modern state. Words like fief, seisin, escheat, palatinate and quitclaim are not antiquarian decoration — they are the technical terms that organised land, justice, and inheritance across a thousand years of English life. To understand them is to understand the architecture of the country that emerged from those centuries.

This glossary collects more than three hundred such terms, each with a short definition, a longer scholarly entry, etymology, historical context, and worked examples. Where a term appears in the records of the Barony of Brattleby itself, the entry is cross-referenced to the Almanac, the Court Circular, or the Forms of Address Manual. The glossary is editorially overseen by the office of Honorary Lord Răzvan Vasile (by marriage) and intended for scholars, journalists, students, and the curious.
