The Great Hall
The Norman great hall, raised by Sir Walter de Brattleby in 1217 in the year of the Battle of Lincoln Fair, with its original hammer-beam roof of Lincolnshire oak and the famed Brattleby Tapestry depicting the rout of the rebel barons. The minstrels' gallery above the screens passage is the oldest continuously used musicians' gallery in England.
An Imagined House
This tour is a work of imagination. The Barony of Brattleby is a title of honour, recorded by notice in The London Gazette; it is not a property. There is no Brattleby Hall, no estate and no visitor attraction at Brattleby, and none of the twelve rooms below corresponds to a building that exists or has been photographed. They are digital compositions created for this website as a way of telling the story of the English country house in general terms.
Each room is presented as an equirectangular panorama that may be explored freely, with written notes and narration written for the experience. Where a room refers to a date, a style or a historical practice, that material draws on the general architectural and social history of English noble houses — it is not a record of the contents, inventories or archives of any particular family or building.
The "Hidden Voices" layer, the household characters and the time-slider reconstructions are likewise imaginative. No claim is made that any object, portrait, room or person depicted here exists, and nothing in this tour should be cited as historical evidence.

Features of the Tour
Audio Narration by Lady Nicoleta
Each of the twelve rooms includes a four-minute audio narration, recorded personally by Lady Nicoleta Vasile in the room itself, drawing on the household papers and her own scholarship as the Twelfth Baroness.
Hidden Voices
A second audio layer carries the recorded voices of household staff — the head gardener, the keeper of the muniments, the farrier — each speaking in the room of their own work, in their own time.

The complete tour, with downloadable lesson plans and full transcripts in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Romanian, is offered free of charge to every school in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Scholarly access to the underlying photogrammetry and the ungraded narration tracks is available on application to the Brattleby Heritage Trust.
