Brattleby holds no estate and no historic building. What it holds is a record — the documented history of a noble title and the family that carries it — and it is that record which the House works to preserve, digitise and share.
The Brattleby Conservation Approach
A Record Held in Trust
The Twelfth Baroness of Brattleby, Lady Nicoleta Vasile, holds a single conviction that orders the House's approach to conservation: a title without a documented history is only a name, and a documented history left unpreserved is eventually lost. That conviction has shaped a modest but genuine programme of archival work.
Brattleby is, in fact, a noble title recorded via notice in The London Gazette. It is not accompanied by any estate, hall, manor or land. The conservation work the House can honestly claim is therefore documentary: the collection, digitisation and careful storage of records, manuscripts, photographs, correspondence and oral history relating to the barony and its holders.
This page describes that work as it stands. It does not describe restoration of buildings, land or fabric, because none exist for the House to restore. It is updated as the archive grows and as the charitable foundation, once registered, is able to take on a wider role.
Our Current Initiatives
The principal strands of the House's conservation and archival work, undertaken by the household and its small circle of volunteers.
Charitable Foundation in Formation
Lady Nicoleta Vasile, the Twelfth Baroness of Brattleby, is in the process of forming a charitable foundation. A charitable foundation is currently in formation and is not yet registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. Once registered, the foundation intends to support heritage and scholarly causes.
Cultural Heritage Advocacy
Through The Noble House of Brattleby Club, the Baroness champions the preservation of aristocratic tradition and the intangible heritage of etiquette, diplomacy and formal hospitality. The Club's dinners, lectures and the Winter Banquet introduce members to the language of heraldry and the disciplines of court protocol.
Documenting the Barony
The House maintains a digital archive documenting the history of the Barony of Brattleby, recorded via the London Gazette notice of its revival, through the genealogical line of its baronial holders, and the correspondence of Honorary Lord Răzvan Vasile (by marriage) and Baron Mihai Alexandru.
Supporting Charitable Causes
The Winter Banquet raises funds for causes supporting vulnerable communities. The 2025 banquet raised proceeds for Healing the Wounded Child, which supports people displaced by war.
Cross-Cultural Connection
Drawing on family roots in Romania and England, Lady Nicoleta Vasile promotes cross-cultural dialogue. The House holds gatherings in London and Bucharest, and maintains a chapter in Monte Carlo.
Genealogical and Heraldic Research
The House undertakes genealogical and heraldic research relating to the Barony of Brattleby and its holders, publishing findings through its archive and educational materials.
Archival Conservation
How We Preserve the Record
Digitisation
Documents, photographs and correspondence relating to the barony are scanned, catalogued and stored digitally, so that the record does not depend on any single physical copy and can be shared with researchers and members.
Oral History
Recollections and accounts from family members and associates of the House are recorded and transcribed, adding to the documentary record alongside written sources.
Genealogical Research
The lineage of the Barony of Brattleby is researched and documented, drawing on public records including The London Gazette notice recording the title's modern holders.
Heraldic Research
The arms associated with the House of Brattleby are researched and recorded, with a view to accurate reproduction in publications and at events.
